Step Up for Students Scholarship

Florida created the Florida Tax Credit Scholarship in 2001 to give low-income students one learning option that is not available to them because of their financial circumstances. It allows them to consider whether a private school might be a better fit academically. They are awarded on a first-come, first-served basis and can be transferred to other eligible schools if the student moves within the state, or simply wants to attend a different Step Up partner school.

For more information call 877-735-7837 or click on the the Step Up for Students link on this page.

In addition to Step up for Students, other scholarships that are available to Florida students are the
Gardiner Scholarship and the McKay Scholarship.

St. John also has access to several grants to help families with their tuition. Qualification information is given to enrolled families in the Spring for the following school year. Additional tuition assistance is sometimes available based on need. If you would like to apply for assistance, please complete the information at FACTS Grant and Aid Assessment by following the link to the right.

Financial assistance, whether through state scholarships or St. John tuition assistance, have limited funds. Once the funds have been exhausted, no additional monies are available for that school year.

The Catholic Diocese of Pensacola-Tallahassee Grants

Two new grants are being offered to qualified students who are seeking a Catholic school education in the Diocese of Pensacola-Tallahassee for the 2020-2021 school year.

The Mustard Seed Grant will provide a one-time $2000 tuition assistance grant for 25 Catholic students in grades K-12 whose family is entering one of the diocesan schools for the first time. Multiple siblings may qualify in the same year. The Mustard Seed Grant is an initiative, which is the outcome of a partnership between the Diocese of Pensacola-Tallahassee and the Catholic Foundation of Northwest Florida.

The Diocesan Family Grant, provided by the Diocese of Pensacola-Tallahassee, is a one-time $900 tuition assistance grant for families with at least one child in one of the diocesan Catholic elementary schools and at least one child in one of the diocesan Catholic high schools.

“The grants will provide an opportunity for children to experience a Catholic education. Now more than ever, having a faith-based formation and providing academic excellence can have a positive influence on our society,” said Mike Juhas, superintendent of Catholic schools.
